Excerpt from the magazine Kendra & Nate
Kendra and Nate met in the summer of 2015 in Houston, Texas, where they were both undergraduate interns at an energy company. Kendra worked in the communications department and Nate worked on the engineering team. Kendra was organizing a company event at the Houston Food Bank and Nate, who had signed up to participate, had to visit Kendra’s office to pick up a volunteering t-shirt. He lingered in the doorway and eventually asked if she would like to have coffee together sometime. The pair met up that same week and hit it off immediately. Six years later, they were visiting Kendra’s family cabin in the Sangre de Cristo mountains of Northern New Mexico that her grandparents built in the 1970s. “It’s one of our favorite places on earth, a little blue-gray house perched in a big meadow amid towering green mountains. There are wild turkeys, elk, deer, blue jays, and hummingbirds galore, plus a little creek filled with rainbow trout that cuts through the valley,” Kendra shares. Nate proposed to Kendra during a hike up the nearest mountain with a vintage 7-stone diamond ring that belonged to his great-grandmother. Kendra had always imagined getting married in or near a national park, and Rocky Mountain National Park seemed to be the perfect place to say “I do.”
